Privacy Policy

String Step privacy policy.

Effective May 18, 2026. String Step is designed for visible recording, encrypted storage, explicit transcription choices, and user-controlled deletion.

Data We Collect

Depending on the features you use, String Step may collect:

How We Use Data

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use String Step data for third-party advertising or tracking.

Audio And Transcription

Audio recording is visible and user-started. Automatic transcription requires explicit opt-in and per-Step controls.

When private on-device transcription is available, String Step can create transcripts without sending audio to String Step servers or a third-party transcription provider. If you choose cloud transcription, your audio is temporarily decrypted and sent to a transcription provider for processing. Transcript results are encrypted before durable storage. String Step should not store plaintext audio or plaintext transcripts in logs, analytics, support events, or audit event bodies.

Location And Live Sharing

String Step uses location to record and replay Steps and, if you choose, to share live location with a trusted viewer through a limited link. Location sharing is controlled by you and is not public by default.

Storage, Security, And Deletion

String Step is built around encrypted local and cloud storage for private Step artifacts. You can delete Steps from the app. Deletion is intended to remove route, audio, transcript, sharing grants, and local cached Step data associated with the deleted Step, subject to short operational backup and security retention windows.

You can also request account or data deletion through support.
